On Science Day (Sunday 15 November), join the logicians for a public afternoon event marking the launch of the Diderik Batens Fund for Logic and Clear Thinking. To celebrate his 82nd birthday, philosopher and logician Diderik Batens will return to the Blandijn in person for a special one-hour public lecture!

Why does our own reasoning sometimes seem so logical, while others arrive at very different conclusions? And what if they are working with information or insights that we do not have? When we think of logic, we often associate it with conclusions that are firmly established and beyond question. But how can we continue to reason responsibly when our information is incomplete or contradictory? In this public lecture, Batens will use familiar, everyday examples to show how adaptive logics can help us critically examine the reasoning of others as well as our own. Because even when an argument seems logical, there may be good reasons to revise its conclusion.
