Simple contributing to Bestor...
People who want to provide an article in a one-off and easy way can format their text in Word according to the tips and template below, and send it to bestor@rasab.be. A user will then code the text in mediawiki and put it online.
Suggestions and comments can also be send to this email address.
The Bestor software does not allow articles to be edited without the editor being registered as a user (as in Wikipedia). The reason for this is to stop hackers and spammers.
...or collaborating on Bestor as a user
Only Users have direct access to the website to post or edit notes. In order for all notes to have the same web style, they must be written in wikicode. This method is not so difficult, but takes some time to master. People who want to post and edit notes directly on the website can create a User identity.
How to create a User Identity:
- Send a mail to bestor@rasab.be with a username of your choice and a password of your choice. Some time later, you will receive an automatic confirmation e-mail at the same e-mail address with your chosen password and username.
- Use this to log in. Use the login button at the top right of the Bestor screen.
- Now click on the button "My preferences" on the top right of the screen. Here you can complete your data. Click on "confirm e-mail address".
- You will find a new email in your mailbox: click on the link in the email.
Now you are fully registered and can start working on Bestor! As a member of the Bestor community, you can :
- Create new notes. See the tutorials for working in Mediawiki at Writing tips.
- Editing or commenting on existing notes on the discussion page of the note. See the tutorial Editing and commenting on notes.
- Editing your own user page.
Please refer to the codes of conduct of the Bestor community on Ethics and Vision of Bestor! You need to fill in some data and your e-mail address here. Providing your real name is optional, but recommended. If you provide your name, it can be used to acknowledge your work. It also gives your notes a face to other users and readers.
Logging in
To be able to carry out active operations in Bestor, you must first log in. You can do this by using the login button at the top right of the screen. Enter your username and password.
Your user page
- On your user page, you can identify yourself (if you used a pseudonym as your username). You can provide information about yourself, your interests and your activities.
- You can create your own userpage by clicking on your username, which appears at the top of the Bestor screen when you are logged in. This name is shown in red as long as you have not created a user page.
- You can only create a user page if you are a User. It is not mandatory for Users to create a user page.

Collaborating: what can I do?
Write, edit or comment on a note about a subject you know a lot about. Or take a look at the news page of the User Portal. Here, you will find a number of hotlists of topics that urgently need to be noted on Bestor or are waiting to be translated into Dutch. You can do some very useful work there!
