Francqui Foundation
Named after Emile Francqui.
In 1932, Emile Francqui and Herbert Hoover jointly decided to establish a Foundation, to which they entrusted significant capital. This Foundation was intended to "promote the development of higher education and scientific research in Belgium". The Francqui-Foundation was established by a Royal Decree of 25 February 1932, as a Foundation of Public Utility.
The aim of the Francqui Foundation is to encourage the prestige of selfless fundamental enquiry. To this end, it lends unquestionable moral support to our scientists. Its statutes clearly state that its objective is to "promote the development of higher education and scientific research in Belgium". Implicitly, this includes encouraging inter-university cooperation.
