Il y a 185 ans, le Conseil central de la santé publique a été créé à Bruxelles. Il peut être considéré comme une sorte de précurseur du sciensano.<br>

Le 5 mai 1835 fut un jour crucial dans l'histoire de la Belgique : le premier voyage en train en Belgique, de Bruxelles à Malines. Plus encore, le premier voyage en train sur le continent européen ! Ce voyage a marqué le début d'un grand projet visant à égaliser, pour la première fois, les « fuseaux horaires » et à mettre fin aux petites différences de temps entre les villes et les villages de Belgique. Ce projet était devenu urgent car la construction du chemin de fer belge nécessitait un fuseau horaire national uniforme afin que les trains puissent circuler à l'heure. Et, plus important encore, pour réduire le risque de collision entre les trains. En 1836, le gouvernement belge a mis sur pied un vaste projet pour installer des lunettes méridiennes et des méridiennes à différents endroits du pays. Exposition Wiener Kreis at UCL
Jusqu'au 30 juin, vous pouvez visiter l'exposition Cercle de Vienne. Pensée exacte au bord du précipice. Ce « Groupe de Vienne », également connu sous le nom de « Wiener Kreis », comprend des penseurs tels que Moritz Schlick, Rudolf Carnap et Otto Neurath. Ce groupe d’intellectuels a eu une influence significative sur la l’empirisme logique et les sciences de l’ingénierie contemporaines. L’exposition illustre l’histoire de ce Cercle de sociabilité savante. Elle retrace les destins de ses protagonistes, qui ont été victimes des ravages du populisme et des persécutions antisémites qui frappèrent la Vienne des années 1930.

La Seconde Guerre mondiale est peut-être le sujet le plus étudié de l'historiographie. Mais en ce qui concerne la pratique de la science dans les Pays-Bas, nous savons peu de choses. Le nouveau numéro de Wonderkamer fait donc la lumière sur la période 1940-1945 et sur la science en temps de guerre et d'occupation.

Les méridiennes de Quetelet

Le 5 mai 1835 fut un jour crucial dans l'histoire de la Belgique : le premier voyage en train en Belgique, de Bruxelles à Malines. Plus encore, le premier voyage en train sur le continent européen ! Ce voyage a marqué le début d'un grand projet visant à égaliser, pour la première fois, les « fuseaux horaires » et à mettre fin aux petites différences de temps entre les villes et les villages de Belgique. Ce projet était devenu urgent car la construction du chemin de fer belge nécessitait un fuseau horaire national uniforme afin que les trains puissent circuler à l'heure. Et, plus important encore, pour réduire le risque de collision entre les trains. En 1836, le gouvernement belge a mis sur pied un vaste projet pour installer des lunettes méridiennes et des méridiennes à différents endroits du pays. Il confie l'installation de ces mini-observatoires au scientifique renommé Adolphe Quetelet. Pour en savoir plus, cliquez sur le lien suivant.
